Portsmouth's education superstars celebrated at special event

The city's education superstars, who were nominated by the community, gathered at an event hosted by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Jason Fazackarley.

Teach Portsmouth organised a celebration event at Boathouse 4 Restaurant to recognise those within the people's choice award category.

The category is part of the Teach Portsmouth Awards and allows parents/carers and staff to nominate someone in their school or college who has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Over 100 nominations were received breaking a new record. Those who attended enjoyed afternoon tea and received a certificate of excellence in recognition of their work.

Shortlisting panel meet to review nominations for the Teach Portsmouth Awards

A group of education professionals from across Portsmouth gathered to establish a shortlist and overall winner for 11 categories in the Teach Portsmouth Awards. The Teach Portsmouth Awards return on Thursday 12 June at Portsmouth Guildhall to celebrate the achievements of school and college staff.

Nominations for schools opened in January asking senior staff to put forward colleagues. Over 35 schools participated in this year's awards with a new record broken for the number of people's choice award nominations being received.

The shortlisting panel was made up of six education professionals including: Bernadette Castellano, membership secretary, National Education Union, James Doherty, principal at UTC Portsmouth, David Higginbottom, deputy director, HISP Teaching School Hubs, Frances Soul, independent chair, Portsmouth Education Partnership and Alison Critchley, head of sufficiency and resources at Portsmouth City Council. Mindy Butler, early years and childcare manager at Portsmouth City Council joined the panel at the start of the session to support the early years and childcare category.

A big thank you to the panel for giving their time and expertise. The shortlist for the Teach Portsmouth Awards will be announced in May with the winner announced at the awards ceremony in June.
