What are Portsmouth schools like?  

As of October 2020, there are 61 schools in the city. Some of the city's schools are maintained by the local authority, while others are managed by multi academy trusts (MATs).

Portsmouth's educational partners work together in the city as part of the Portsmouth Education Partnership to provide the best possible education for all pupils across the city.

Finding your next step up in Portsmouth

In Portsmouth, many schools focus on development and offer opportunities to those who have an appetite for ambition.

Lloyd O'Neil, head of science at Admiral Lord Nelson School started school life as a learning support assistant. Over time, he progressed from a teacher to head of department. Lloyd told us what this experience was like. 

As you progress through teaching, you'll be able to choose what route you want, whether academic or pastoral. Progress in teaching is simply limited by you.
