Top questions

How many exhibitors will be attending?

The Teach Portsmouth Jobs and Opportunities Fair will welcome 24 exhibitors on the day. We will continue to add more information on exhibitors as we approach the big day. Exhibitors will include schools, multi-academy trusts (organisations who run different schools in the city), adult education providers, Portsmouth City Council services and employment specialists. Altogether, these exhibitors can support you to start a career in education.

What are taster sessions?

Participating employers will be offering taster sessions. This offers attendees a chance to visit a specific school or organisation, have a tour, meet staff and learn more about working there before they apply. We know some people lack the confidence or experience in the workplace.

Each employer is responsible for their own taster sessions. They will implement a waiting list if demand exceeds availability. More information on who will be part of the scheme will be promoted nearer to the event.

Do I need to bring my CV to the event?

It is not a requirement to bring a CV. However, if you would find it useful to reference during any conversations you have with exhibitors, please bring it along. While exhibitors will have a range of jobs and opportunities on offer, you will still need to apply for a job or opportunity following their application process after the event.

Do I need to register for talks in the Opportunities Room?

The Opportunities Room has a capacity for 100 people per talk. We will be running different talks throughout the day. Your ticket to the event automatically gives you access to this room - so there is no need to book an additional ticket. The schedule for presentations will be released in late-January - so please check back then. You can re-enter the event throughout the day if there is a talk at a different time.

How can I volunteer in a school or college?

While we are still confirming exhibitors for the event and the opportunities they will bring, many schools and colleges will welcome volunteers throughout the year.

If you would like to volunteer, we would always recommend contacting a school or college first to start a conversation. You will require a basic DBS in most cases. Schools and colleges will organise this for you, if you take up a volunteering position with them.

How do I become a teacher and will there be information on this?

If you have the right experience and qualifications, becoming a teacher doesn't have to be challenging. Teacher training providers will be attending to support those wishing to join the profession. If you are already qualified, schools and multi-academy trusts who decide to attend will be promoting vacancies too.
